Security company in Krugersdorp and Mogale City

Roodepoort and Florida are part of the City of Johannesburg. Krugersdorp isn't. It is the seat of Mogale City Local Municipality in the West Rand District, a mining town founded in 1887 on part of the Paardekraal farm and proclaimed a separate goldfield the following year. It has its own business centre, its own industrial areas and, on its outskirts, farms, smallholdings and the edge of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site.

That gives Krugersdorp a wider spread of property types than most of the areas we cover. Original mining-era family houses stand alongside cluster developments, large homes and gated estates in the town suburbs. Head out of town and you reach working farms, flower growers, nurseries and wedding venues. Mogale City also lists Boltonia, Chamdor, Delporton and Luipaardsvlei as its industrial areas. Security for a townhouse in Monument and for a smallholding near Muldersdrift are two different jobs, so we quote them differently.

Muldersdrift is known for its small farms, smallholdings and nurseries, and for the more than 40 wedding and conference venues that have earned it the name "wedding capital" of Gauteng. Further around Mogale City there are farms and agricultural holdings, and the municipality notes flower farms that grow a good share of Gauteng's flowers.

These properties have a few things in common: long boundaries, open land on the other side, buildings spread across the plot, and often nobody on site at night. Neighbours are further away, so you can't rely on someone next door to notice. What usually works is a layered setup:

1. Perimeter. An electric fence on the boundary or around the core of the property, zoned so you know which section was touched. On very large plots it can make more sense to fence the house, stores and yard rather than every metre of the land.
2. Detection. Outdoor beams and cameras covering the driveway, outbuildings and the places where equipment is kept, with lighting or infrared so the night picture is usable.
3. Watching. 24-hour off-site monitoring of the alarm and cameras, so someone is on the other end when something triggers, even when the venue or nursery is closed.

A gate motor with battery backup at the entrance and background checks for new farm or venue staff round it out.

Krugersdorp is one of the West Rand's main centres for industrial property, with factories, warehouses and production sites. Chamdor in particular is a mostly industrial suburb and a big local employment area. Sites like these have two different security needs: controlling who comes through the gate during the day, and watching an empty yard at night.

• Daytime: commercial guards on the gate to check trucks, visitors and contractors in and out, and biometric access control so you have a record of which staff came in and when.
• Night-time: cameras along the fence line and over the yard, watched off-site, rather than relying on one guard who can only be in one place.

In Krugersdorp's residential suburbs, many homes sit among hills and gardens, from freestanding family houses to townhouse complexes.
